Satendra Kumar Mangrauthia is currently Scientist of Biochemistry at the Indian Institute of Rice Research (IIRR), Hyderabad. He earned his Bachelor of Science (Agriculture and Animal Husbandry) from C.S.A University of Agriculture and Technology Kanpur in 2001. He completed Master of Science (Biochemistry) and PhD (Biochemistry) in 2002 and 2008 at Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi. In his PhD thesis work, he deciphered the RNAi suppression mechanism of Papaya ringspot virus (PRSV), Cucumber mosaic virus, and Papaya leaf curl virus. Full genome sequencing of two major strains of PRSV during his doctoral research work was crucial to understand the evolution and diversification of PRSV in India. After completing his PhD, Dr. Satendra joined as a Scientist thorough Agricultural Research Service (ARS) at IIRR (formerly Directorate of Rice Research) in the year 2008. He also went for postdoctoral research at Purdue University, USA during 2012-13 to work in the laboratory of Prof. Jian Kang Zhu, Distinguished Professor of Plant Biology. During these years, Dr. Satendra has made significant contribution on biotechnology application for improvement of rice crop. His work on epigenetic regulation of plants, biochemical and molecular basis of heat stress response and rice tungro virus disease found place in high impact peer reviewed journals of plant biology. He is also an associate of National Academy of Sciences, India and winner of various young scientist awards including the prestigious ICAR-Jawaharlal Nehru award and Indian Science Congress-Young Scientist Award. He has guided 4 M.Sc and one Ph.D students. Dr. Satendra has authored over 40 refereed publications, 10 book chapters, and 5 books.
