Senior Scientist

Dr. Rohini Sreevathsa completed her graduation from the Chemistry (Biochemistry) Department, Bangalore University in 2002. Simultaneously, she worked as a Research fellow in the Department of Biochemistry, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. During this tenure, she developed a novel tissue culture-independent Agrobacterium tumefaciens-mediated in planta transformation protocol. Her expertise in transgenics won her the DST-Young scientist fast track project in 2004. She worked on her project at the UAS, GKVK, Bangalore. Further, she continued to work as a Research Scientist and was actively involved in the development of several promising transgenic plants for both biotic and abiotic stress tolerance in various crop species. She has a good number of papers and book chapters to her credit. Presently, she is working as a Senior Scientist at ICAR-NRCPB, New Delhi. Her main area of research now is to develop pod borer resistance in pigeon pea by Bt insecticidal crystal proteins following a transgenic approach.
